What are SARMs?
Updated on July 17, 2020 by the USADA
SARM stands for selective androgen receptor modulator, and it’s a type of performance enhancer (pills no injections) that’s chemically similar to anabolic steroids. SARMs can increase muscle growth and fat loss like steroids, but to a lesser degree and without the unwanted side effects associated with steroid use. They only work on Androgen Receptors as where traditional steroids affect the entire body. Sarms only work in one area which is within the muscle and fat.
SARMs are great products that can help build lean muscle tissue, strength, performance, and endurance. They’re actually considered to be legal steroids by many.
Specific SARMs work better for cutting, whereas others work better for bulking.
When you are bulking or cutting, they can help with the following:
- Accelerating lean muscle mass growth.
- Increasing your overall strength and power.
- Speeding up the rate at which your muscles recover.
- Improving the density and hardness of your muscles.
- Speeding up stubborn fat loss.
- Enhancing endurance, stamina and workout capacity.
SARMs are similar to steroids, but they are not one and the same. Both work by binding to your androgen receptors, triggering changes in your DNA which increase your muscles’ ability to grow.
But steroids are a blunt tool – they can also impact other parts of the body, leading to side effects such as prostate issues, hair loss and acne.
SARMs, however, are said to be “tissue selective” – they target your muscles without setting off this same chain of reactions. They’re also taken in pill form, rather than injected.
They are a class of therapeutic compounds that have similar anabolic properties to anabolic steroids, but with reduced (side effects) androgenic (producing male characteristics) properties. As an example, the androgen receptor is activated by binding androgens, such as testosterone. Unlike anabolic steroids, which bind to androgen receptors in many tissues all over the body, individual SARMs selectively bind androgen receptors in certain tissues, but not in others.
Basically you get muscle building and fat loss ability without the side effects that steroids cause.
In medical settings, this could be very useful for stimulating specific tissue growth like muscle and bone, while avoiding unwanted side effects in other tissues like the liver or skin. SARMs are being evaluated as a clinical treatment for muscle-wasting caused by several diseases, such as osteoporosis, cancer, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, end-stage liver disease, end-stage renal disease, and HIV.
SHOULD YOU USE SARMS?
If you’re dead set on wanting to reach your goals as fast as possible, you should consider trying SARMs.
The main reason we’re massive fans of these products is that they have no nasty side effects.
So essentially, what you’re getting is steroid-like effects but not the negatives. You can safely focus on reaching your goals without worrying about side effects.
It all comes down to your goals. Once you know whether you want to gain size (bulk) or lose bodyfat (cut), you can consider one of the compounds we’ve discussed above.
One thing is for sure; I’d much rather use these compounds than any type of steroids or prohormones. In my opinion, these are safer and work just as well.
After your cycle, it’s crucial to use a post cycle therapy. The reason why you need to use a post cycle therapy is to help you recover and maintain the gains afterward.
